BIRKOSIT - Dichtungskitt ®


BIRKOSIT - Dichtungskitt ® Sealing Compound has been used for 50 years on turbines (product development 1952 with Siemens). Without the additional sealing of individual pressure areas using BIRKOSIT - Dichtungskitt ® the production imprecision or the distortion under loads are no longer evened out, which means that the turbine areas in the individual pressure areas become permeable under pressure. This means the turbine loses power, and can even lead to unplanned reconditioning.


BIRKOSIT - Dichtungskitt ® is formulated to be practically inert in its standard applications in steam and gas turbines. It is, therefore, resistant to exposure to hot air, steam, water, light fuel oils and lubricants. By implication, it should be resistant to crude oil and natural gas.


[main application]
single-component, paste sealing compound for sealing between machined surfaces (joints between parts) in steam and gas turbines at temperatures up to 900 °C and pressures up to 250 bar.


[other applications]
can also be used for sealing between smooth surfaces in compressors, housings, pumps etc. and by extension, in valve glands and screw joints.


[additional applications]
All kinds of screwed metal flange pipe connections (independent of flange diameter and shape). Their operating conditions are characterized by water, steam, pressure, high temperature


Service life
When used in accordance with instructions and with regular servicing as required for steam and gas turbines, we guarantee a service life for use on machined sealing surfaces (butt joints), of 10 years.


For high-pressure (H) turbines, we guarantee that the product will withstand hot steam, hot air, hot and cold water, light fuel oils, lubricants, mineral oil and natural gas at temperatures up to 900 °C and pressures up to 250 bar.


Pressure resistance
The excellent adhesion on sealing surfaces and butt joints guarantees a perfect seal up to 250 bar. The pressure resistance for flanges without sealing rings is up to 450 bar; and even up to 550 bar for screw joints



BIRKOSIT Fields of Application
BIRKOSIT Dichtungskitt ® is suitable for sealing all surface sizes. The surface quality of the sealing surfaces complies with milled/scraped surfaces with a finishing accuracy of Ra = 0.8 µm to 1.2 µm. Sealing surface damage of ≤ 0.2 mm is compensated with BIRKOSIT Dichtungskitt ®. To compensate individual points of severe damage of ≥ 0.2 mm to 1.0 mm, we recommend our additional products BIRKOSIT Dichtungskitt ® Filling1000 and BIRKOSIT Dichtungskitt ® Filling2000.


BIRKOSIT Application
Apply the BIRKOSIT Dichtungskitt ® to the dry sealing surfaces with a brush or putty knife.The layer thickness to be applied is 0.2 mm to 0.3 mm. The product can be subjected to workloads immediately! It does not cure, will not change its consistency even after several hours, and remains flexible and elastic. It is therefore also suitable for butt joint machining. The colour is reddish brown. Heating the tin to room temperature or adding a tenth part of standard linseed oil varnish will improve the brushability.


BIRKOSIT Storage
Packed in 1 kg tins. If stored correctly, BIRKOSIT Dichtungskitt ® has a storage life of 5 years in the tin. Its properties are stable and it is flexible in use. Close the tin properly if only a part of the contents is going to be used.
